“As the busiest airport in Florida we continue to track and closely monitor our growing passenger totals,” says Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “Not only is each monthly increase a travel record for us, it also re-affirms the value and importance of having the facilities and staff to meet the needs of business and leisure travelers to our region.”
The passenger numbers for 2018 have been counted and once again Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the busiest airport in the state of Florida with a record 47.7 million annual passengers, up 6.9 percent over 2017. MCO surpassed 150 non-stop domestic and international destinations in 2018, which contributed greatly to the airport’s increased airline activity, seat availability and passenger traffic numbers.
“We are on track to have a record breaking summer at Orlando International Airport. Our passenger growth is reflective of the value placed on this community by our travelers,” says Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “At our current pace we should surpass 47 million annual passengers by the end of summer.”
In a recent meeting, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) Board voted to position Orlando International Airport (MCO) as the first U.S. airport to fully deploy the U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) Biometric Entry and Exit Program. The system will be implemented at the 30 MCO gates having international departures and at CBP checkpoints located in the airport’s two Federal Inspection Stations.
Climbing nearly 12 percent for the month, international traffic continued to push Orlando International Airport (MCO) to new passenger traffic records in June. For the first time ever, passenger volume surpassed 43 million on a rolling 12-month basis at MCO.
“While we enthusiastically welcome our 39th straight month of overall passenger growth and this new record of 43 million, we also face the reality that our terminal facilities are nearing capacity,” says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
February continued building upon January’s passenger growth at Orlando International Airport (MCO) spurred on by unique Central Florida community events such as the NFL Pro Bowl in January and the Daytona 500 in February.
