Orlando International Airport (MCO) ended 2016 processing nearly 42 million annual passengers, a new record!
“Orlando International Airport just experienced its busiest and most successful year in airport history,” says Frank Kruppenbacher, Chairman of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “As a major economic engine in this community, generating over $31 billion in direct and indirect revenue, record domestic and international traffic means jobs and opportunities for our local economy.”
2016 Interesting Year-end Facts:
- MCO welcomed 3.1 million additional passengers in 2016
- That equates to an additional 8,531 new passengers per day on average, which is the equivalent of 18 extra Boeing 747’s or an additional 39, A321 aircraft arriving every day at MCO
- In total more than 41.9 million passengers traveled through MCO, an 8 percent increase over the previous record set in 2015
- International travel accounts for more than 13.3 percent of overall airport traffic
- There were 3.3 million additional passenger seats added to the market with Frontier Airlines adding 1.3 million of those
- An additional 7 new routes were also added at MCO in 2016. New routes included Colorado Springs; Des Moines; Niagara Falls; Plattsburgh; Recife, Brazil; Regina and Vancouver, Canada.
2016 Year-end Statistical Data:
- Domestic traffic climbed 7.73 percent with 36,330,689 total passengers
- International traffic hit a new record with 5,592,710 travelers at MCO an increase of 10 percent
- Total combined traffic for the year was a record 41,923,399 which is an 8 percent gain over 2015
“While we reflect on a strong and active year, our challenge now is to continue building upon the momentum we experienced in 2016,” says Phil Brown, Executive Director of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “We are continuing projects that will meet the demand for capacity forecasts for 2017 and beyond.”
